- Identification -

* Identification/ Identificação : -All our dogs are microchipped at 6 weeks by our veterinary Dra Maria João Carvalho ( Vetalcochete). -Todos os nossos cachorros são microchipados às 6 semanas pela Dra Maria João Carvalho (Vetalcochete). - We do ADN Profile test ( Kinship) in our breeding dogs. - Nós fazemos o teste de Perfil de ADN ( Parentesco) em todos os nossos cães.

- Health -

We give enormous importance to the health, temperament, and character of our dogs and that they maintain their natural working abilities. Therefore we have acquired our first Golden Retriever and Flatcoated Retriever in breeders that thought and practiced the same. We chose stud dogs that also obey what we believe is correct and we have only bred with bitches with the same rules in our mind. Both breeds have mandatory health exams but some are different, so we thought about explaining a bit about them.
Flatcoated Retriever
* Hips/ Elbows: We examine the hips and elbows of all our dogs. This is done by RX and we do it in a Dra that is an Orthopedist. An orthopedist is a doctor specialized in scoring dogs' Hips and Elbows correctly ( amongst other things); * Patella /Knee luxation: This is a health issue that needs to be checked in this breed. We do two different exams. We do an RX ( at the same time with screen Hips and Elbows) and the same Orthopedist does a manual exam to check if the kneecap dislocates out of its normal anatomic position when physical stress is applied to the knee joint. This is a congenital, heritable condition.  * Eye exam: This exam should be performed by a veterinarian who is a specialist ophthalmologist who is assured to assess if the dog has any inherited eye conditions. With Flatcoated Retriever Glaucoma should also be tested. Glaucoma is an increase in intraocular pressure - the pressure within the eyeball is raised above the normal limit. Unfortunately, glaucoma often results in total blindness sometimes necessitating the removal of a swollen eye. All dogs should have their eyes tested before matting, or having a litter.
Golden Retriever

All dogs should have their eyes tested before matting or having a litter. * Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA1 & PRA2): This is tested by a Genetic Test. It is characterized by bilateral degeneration of the retina resulting in progressive vision loss to total blindness. Alleles: N= Normal/ Clear PRA1 = Golden Retriever progressive retinal atrophy ( variant 1) PRA2 = Golden Retriever progressive retinal atrophy ( variant 2)
